The journal is currently looking to take on three to four new Associate Editors to join the existing Editorial Team.

Position description

Applicants for these positions should have a strong interest in the interdisciplinary environmental humanities (in line with the journal’s mandate).

We would particularly welcome applicants who will enhance the journal’s geographical, cultural, disciplinary and linguistic diversity.

The position of Associate Editor requires roughly 2-3 hours of work a week on average.

Each Associate Editor will be allocated roughly 8-10 article submissions per year to oversee. This process involves reading papers to ensure their suitability, identifying appropriate referees, coordinating the review process, working with authors on revisions, and – in consultation with the rest of the Editorial Team – making a final decision about publication. In addition, our Associate Editors are involved in more informal ways in reading, discussing and evaluating articles overseen by other members of the journal’s Editorial Team.

Associate Editors should have an established background of academic publication, be strong writers, good managers and ideally have some editorial experience. They must be well organised, able to keep good records and to use an online submission management system (Editorial Manager). Editors should be able to dedicate some time to the journal every few days, rather than allowing tasks to build up. Please note, applicants should already have a completed PhD (or equivalent qualification/experience).

Associate Editors will be appointed for a three year period.

Application process

Those interested in an Associate Editor position with Environmental Humanities should submit a CV with a short (1 page) cover letter outlining their relevant experience and interest in the position and the journal.

Applications should be submitted by 15 September 2017.

To submit an application, please upload it here as a single PDF document with your surname as the file name.

The Management Committee of the journal will consider all applications and make decisions by the end of October. Decisions will be based in large part on the skills and experience of the applicants, but will also take into account the balance of expertise and diversity on the Editorial Team.
