Call for Expressions of Interest to join the EH editorial team in 2020

Environmental Humanities is an international, open-access, journal that aims to invigorate current interdisciplinary research on the environment. The journal is published by Duke University Press and co-edited by Dolly Jørgensen (University of Stavanger) and Franklin Ginn (University of Bristol): https://www.dukeupress.edu/environmental-humanities.

We are looking for new people to join the editorial team and invite expressions of interest for two types of positions: Living Lexicon Editors and Associate Editors.

Call for applications: Living Lexicon Editors, Environmental Humanities

The journal is currently looking to take on two new Living Lexicon Editors to join the existing Editorial Team. Applicants for these positions should have a strong interest in the interdisciplinary environmental humanities (in line with the journal’s mandate) and would enhance the journal team’s geographical, cultural, disciplinary and linguistic diversity.

Environmental Humanities: Living Lexicon Background

The Living Lexicon comprises a series of 1,000 word essays, each highlighting the importance of a particular keyword, demonstrating how it might help the Environmental Humanities to move in interesting directions that take seriously this dual imperative for critique and action. The pieces are both scholarly and creative, and include personal reflections by authors and experimental musings based on their own research. The Lexicon aims for concise, provocative prose, rather than dictionary-style entries. Lexicon entries are peer-reviewed using a standard double-blind process and published in a special section of Environmental Humanities. See: https://read.dukeupress.edu/environmental-humanities/pages/lexicon.

Position description: Living Lexicon Editors

The position of Living Lexicon Editor requires roughly 4-6 hours of work a month on average. Each Editor will be allocated roughly 4-10 essay submissions per year to oversee. This process involves reading essays to ensure their suitability, identifying appropriate referees, coordinating the review process, working with authors on revisions, and – in consultation with the rest of the Editorial Team – making a final decision about publication. Living Lexicon Editors should have an established background of academic publication, be strong writers and good managers. They must be well organised, able to keep good records and to use an online submission management system (Editorial Manager). Editors should be able to dedicate some time to the journal, rather than allowing tasks to build up. Please note, applicants must already have a completed PhD (or equivalent qualification/experience).

Living Lexicon Editors will be appointed for a three-year period.

Application process

Those interested in a Living Lexicon Editor position with Environmental Humanities should submit a CV with a short (1 page) cover letter outlining their relevant experience and interest in the position and the journal.
Applications should be submitted by 28 February 2020.
To submit an application, please send a single PDF document with your surname as the file name to submissions@environmentalhumanities.org with the subject line Living Lexicon Editor.

The Management Committee of the journal will consider all applications and make decisions. Decisions will be based in large part on the skills and experience of the applicants, but will also take into account the balance of expertise and diversity on the Editorial Team.

Call for applications: Associate Editor, Environmental Humanities

The journal is currently looking to take on new Associate Editors to join the existing Editorial Team. Applicants for these positions should have a strong interest in the interdisciplinary environmental humanities (in line with the journal’s mandate). We will especially welcome applicants who would enhance the journal team’s geographical, cultural and linguistic diversity. We will also especially welcome applicants with expertise in anthropology, art philosophy, queer studies, post/de-coloniality, critical theory.
